A Lonely X'mas

A Lonely X’mas

Saturday, 30 June 2007

I am not sure how I am going to run with this Blog, whether
I will write a continung saga or just occaisons as they spring to mind.
So for now I will just write them as they come.
Following the previous disaster, we decided that Bernie would have to sail,
alone, at X’mas.
We were lucky to get a passage at all I think and managed to get one on...
You’ll never guess??
X’Mas Day!!!
Bernie made it to the Ferry, yes, right day
( another story in the life of Bernie on Bruny ), and no. no breakdowns.
We had packed a X’mas lunch for him to brighten his lonliness,
the usual fare, Ham, Turkey, Vegies, Mince pies etc.
He was anticipating a feast on his arrival.

However his plans to have that feast were cut short
as it was all promptly removed from his possession by
customs at Devonport Docks!
What a X’mas to remember!
His drive from Devonport to Bruny was uneventful yet unusual.
He found only one garage open for petrol and food  on the way
and if not for this oasis of civilisation, he would have spent the
night in the car.
Fuelled up, he pressed on and arrived at Kettering, for the Bruny Ferry.
Now...
Remember this was X’mas Day!?
The Ferry Crew ( bless them ) were on a 3 hour lunch break
( much deserved I am sure and no doubt to their entitlement intended )
just as Bernie arrived.. He is not a patient man at the best of times
but he was being sorely tested now!
OK.
Surely nothing else could go awry, well it didn’t.
Despite minimal food stocks for his arrival ‘Home’ nothing
could detract from his joy at being on his beloved Bruny island..
He spent the next week in preparation of the Kayaks and house,
in anticipation of all the visitors we expected and our 3 months
business run...
What a joke?
Stopped in our tracks by bureaucracy, we did minimal business
but had a wonderful sojourn....
